The Material Testing Technician ensures that construction materials meet required standards and specifications through laboratory and site testing.

Material Testing Technicians play a vital role in guaranteeing the quality and reliability of innovative building products and systems used in MMC. As the industry increasingly adopts prefabricated components, low-carbon materials, and offsite manufacturing, accurate material analysis ensures performance, compliance, and safety throughout the construction process.

Experience

  • Work experience in construction sites or civil engineering environments.
  • Previous exposure to laboratory or field-based testing procedures.

Education

  • Leaving Certificate with a focus on science and maths subjects.
  • Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC)/QQI Level 5 or 6 in Construction, Engineering, or Laboratory Techniques.

Training & Certifications

  • On-the-job training with experienced technicians.
  • Apprenticeships or traineeships in Construction Technology or Civil Engineering.
  • Safe Pass (mandatory in Ireland).
  • Manual Handling Certificate.
  • Asbestos Awareness, Confined Spaces (as required by role/site).
  • UKAS/ISO 17025 awareness (if applicable in lab environments).
