Purpose Of The Role

The Materials Technologist researchs, develops and tests materials used in construction to ensure they meet performance, sustainability and safety standards.

Role In MMC

Material Technologists are essential to the innovation and advancement of MMC. They develop and evaluate new sustainable, high-performance materials suited to offsite manufacturing, modular systems, and energy-efficient building solutions. Their work ensures materials are durable, lightweight, environmentally friendly, and compatible with cutting-edge digital construction techniques.

Experience

  • Laboratory or industrial R&D experience in construction materials, civil engineering, or manufacturing.
  • Participation in sustainable building or innovation projects.

Education

  • NFQ Level 7–9 qualifications in Materials Science, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, or Polymer Science.
  • Degrees in Sustainable Engineering or Nanotechnology are also relevant.

Training & Certifications

  • Laboratory Safety Certification
  • CPD courses in Sustainable Construction Materials
  • ISO 9001/14001 for quality and environmental management systems
  • Familiarity with BIM tools and material property databases
