The Lab Assistant helps scientists and engineers test construction materials and products in a lab to make buildings better, stronger, and more sustainable.
Role In MMC
The Lab Assistant supports the development and testing of new construction materials, such as low-carbon concrete, prefabricated components, and smart materials. They contribute to innovation by ensuring materials meet safety and performance standards, enabling faster, greener, and more efficient construction techniques associated with MMC.

Experience
- Work experience in a construction materials lab or quality control setting
- Internship or apprenticeship in construction, engineering, or scientific labs
Education
- Leaving Certificate with a strong science or engineering focus
- Level 5 or 6 QQI Award in Laboratory Techniques, Construction Technology, or related fields
- Post-leaving certificate (PLC) course in Construction Studies, Science, or Engineering
Training & Certifications
- On-the-job training under supervision of lab technicians or engineers
- Short courses in material testing, lab safety, or sustainable construction practices
- Safe Pass (mandatory for most construction roles in Ireland)
- Manual Handling Certificate
- Certificate in Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) – where relevant
