Purpose Of The Role

The Product Development Technician helps design, develop, and test new construction products and materials that improve how buildings are made.

Role In MMC

Product Development Technicians support MMC by helping to create innovative, prefabricated, and sustainable building components. They work closely with engineers and designers to test new products, refine prototypes, and ensure solutions are practical, buildable, and aligned with low-carbon and digital construction methods.

  • PLC in Architectural Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or Sustainable Construction
  • Progression to a Level 7 degree in Product Design, Construction Technology, or Materials Science

Training & Certifications

  • On-the-job training in product development methods and materials
  • Industry workshops or bootcamps focused on innovation and MMC
  • Safe Pass (mandatory for most construction roles)
  • Manual Handling Certificate
  • CPD or certificates in 3D printing, CAD software, or material testing (optional)
