Energy Efficiency Specialist

Purpose Of The Role

The Energy Efficiency Specialist assesses, advises on, and implements strategies that improve the energy performance of buildings, ensuring compliance with regulations and promoting sustainable construction practices.

Role In MMC

Energy Efficiency Specialists play a critical role in ensuring MMC solutions meet and exceed energy performance requirements. They support the design and delivery of low-energy, NZEB (Nearly Zero Energy Buildings) and passive buildings by integrating energy modelling, fabric-first principles, and advanced systems into construction workflows—both on-site and in factory-built environments.

Suggested Entry Routes

Education

  • NFQ Level 7–9 in Architecture, Building Services Engineering, Sustainable Construction, Energy Engineering, or Environmental Science.
  • Relevant diplomas from Technological Universities or Institutes of Technology.

Experience

  • Experience in building services, sustainability consulting, construction quality assurance, or building energy assessment.
  • Prior work with NZEB, passive house, or low-energy building projects is highly desirable.

Training & Certifications

  • Registered BER Assessor (via SEAI).
  • Passive House Designer/Consultant or Tradesperson Certification.
  • CPD in Part L compliance, NZEB, or Energy Retrofit.
  • Training in software tools (e.g. DEAP, PHPP, IESVE, or similar).
