Purpose Of The Role

The Commercial Director leads the commercial strategy and operations of a construction business or major programme, ensuring financial sustainability, client value, and successful project delivery.

Role In MMC

The Commercial Director plays a key leadership role in shaping how MMC is procured, financed, delivered, and scaled. They drive commercial models that support offsite manufacturing, digital workflows, and collaborative supply chains, ensuring innovation is financially viable and aligned with business objectives.

Experience

  • Senior roles such as Commercial Manager, Pre-Construction Lead, or Programme Controls Director.
  • Experience in managing MMC, large capital projects, or complex frameworks.

Training & Certifications

  • Executive leadership training, commercial law CPD, and MMC cost innovation courses.
  • Exposure to international procurement and finance standards.
  • Chartered Membership (SCSI, RICS, CIOB or equivalent).
  • ISO 44001 (Collaborative Business Relationships) awareness.
  • ESG and Carbon Costing certifications (desirable for net-zero projects).
