Installation Engineer

Purpose Of The Role

The Installation Engineer oversees and executes the precise installation of modular building components and systems on-site, ensuring alignment with project specifications, safety standards, and MMC protocols.

Role In MMC

Installation Engineers are crucial in bridging offsite manufacturing and onsite completion. They coordinate the setup of modular units or preassembled systems, ensuring structural integrity, service connectivity (e.g., MEP), and compliance with digital plans. Their expertise enables rapid, high-quality building installation while minimising disruption, waste, and rework.

Suggested Entry Routes

Experience

  • Previous hands-on construction or MEP installation experience.
  • Familiarity with modular or offsite construction projects preferred.

Education

  • NFQ Level 5–7 in Construction Technology, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Technical diplomas in Building Services or Site Engineering.

Training & Certifications

  • Onsite training in installation techniques for modular units or prefabricated systems.
  • Manufacturer-specific training for proprietary modular systems.
  • Safe Pass (mandatory in Ireland).
  • Manual Handling Certificate.
  • MEWP, slinger/signaller, or crane supervisor ticket (as needed).
  • Electrical/plumbing qualifications if handling live connections (e.g., QQI Level 6 or trade certs).
  • BIM and digital tool familiarity (desirable).
