Purpose Of The Role

The steel fixer assembles and positions steel reinforcement in concrete structures, helping ensure strength, stability, and durability in buildings and infrastructure.

Role In MMC

Steel fixers support MMC by working with prefabricated reinforcement cages, modular rebar assemblies, and digitally modelled layouts. Their role contributes to faster construction cycles, enhanced quality control, and reduced material waste — essential in off-site manufacturing and lean construction practices.

  • Entry into SOLAS Steel Fixing Apprenticeship (Note: Often covered under construction skills apprenticeship streams or formwork-related training)

Training & Certifications

  • Safe Pass Certification (mandatory for all construction site workers)
  • Manual Handling and Working at Heights
  • Steel Fixing or Reinforcement Courses via ETBs or private training centres
  • Optional: Training in digital layout tools, robotic total stations or BIM interpretation
