3D Printing Engineer

Purpose Of The Role

The 3D printing Engineer designs, operates and optimises 3D printing technologies for use in modern construction, enabling faster, sustainable and more precise building solutions.

Role In MMC

3D Printing Engineers are central to the digital transformation of the construction industry. Using large-scale additive manufacturing, they help produce complex structural elements and even entire buildings offsite or on-site. Their role accelerates delivery, reduces material waste, and opens new possibilities for sustainable and bespoke design in MMC.

Experience

Education

  • NFQ Level 6–8 in Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Digital Construction, or Additive Manufacturing.
  • Degree or higher diploma in Construction Technology with emphasis on digital processes.

Training & Certifications

  • Short courses in 3D printing, digital fabrication, or parametric design.
  • On-the-job learning within a modern offsite or digital construction environment.
  • Safe Pass (mandatory for all construction roles in Ireland). Certified Additive Manufacturing Technician (e.g., offered by ASTM or industry-specific bodies).
  • BIM & CAD Software Certifications (e.g., Revit, Rhino, Fusion 360).
