Amvic ICF Manufacturing Facility Visit
Since 2005, Amvic ICF has led the way in insulated concrete form manufacturing and construction in Ireland. Founded by industry veterans Pat Martin and George Richardson, Amvic ICF introduced ICF technology to the Irish construction sector and has grown steadily ever since. From production facilities in Co. Dublin and Co. Longford, Amvic ICF supplies and installs NSAI and BBA-certified ICF blocks across residential, commercial and industrial projects, delivering energy-efficient and cost-effective building solutions. Trusted by developers, contractors and housing bodies across Ireland and the UK, every block is rigorously tested for structural integrity, thermal performance and durability.
Delivering a Concrete Construction Programme 25% Faster with the Power of ICF
With the construction industry back in full operation after breaking over the Summer, Skillnet MMC Accelerate’s fourth Business Support Event of 2026 gathered 80+ stakeholders, spanning the entire MMC ecosystem, in Co. Longford. The company hosting this intriguing networking and learning event? One of the largest Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF) manufacturers on the island of Ireland – Amvic ICF.
Presentations were delivered by Brian Duffy, Sales Director at Amvic ICF, and Tom Crosby of the Roscommon County Council. Сiarán Bruder, Content Manager of Skillnet MMC Accelerate, also presented while Dr. Alan Hore, Director of the Construction IT Alliance and Skillnet MMC Accelerate Project Lead, introduced proceedings.
A panel discussion, Building with ICF – The Complete Stakeholder Perspective, followed the presentations and included: Paul Egan, Instructor at the National Construction Training Centre; Tom Naughton, General Manager at Pw Thermal Building Solutions; James Christian, Associate Director at Kilsaran Concrete; Douglas Ritchie, Building Control & Technical Manager for Homebond; and Andrew Butler, Technical Director at Amvic ICF. The panel was chaired by the CEO of MMC Ireland, Paul Tierney.
Dr. Alan Hore began the event with a short address on the importance of upskilling in MMC and stakeholder support for training initiatives. Сiarán Bruder expanded on this point with details on Skillnet MMC Accelerate’s main goal: to manage a national platform supporting upskilling in MMC, and host regional Business Support Events with Irish construction companies to showcase the potential of skills development in MMC.
Brian Duffy welcomed attendees to the Longford production facility with an overview of the company’s history and current operations. He discussed the major adoption of ICF in recent years in Irish construction, increasing from a small percentage of all home builds in Ireland in 2020 to more than 20% in 2026. “This isn’t a gradual increase – this is a total transformation”, Brian Duffy noted, expanding on the benefits of using ICF over traditional concrete blockwork. This includes in-built thermal insulation, lighter transportation and faster assembly onsite, and reduced use of concrete in building.
Councillor Tom Crosby followed with a reflection on his experience of 35+ years in local government and the importance of attracting innovative companies to the region.
“County boundaries may matter to local government, but they should never limit our ambition. When a company such as Amvic ICF invests in operations here, it creates employment and develops expertise. The benefits from this can then spread throughout the wider Midlands and Northwest.”

He followed by acknowledging the opportunity to vastly increase the amount of housing produced in these wider regions with the knowledge of companies such as Amvic ICF.
“We must build quality, affordability, durability, and energy efficiency into housing that will serve people for generations to come. That is where ICF and Modern Methods of Construction can make an enormous contribution.”

In a first for a Skillnet MMC Accelerate Business Support Event, MMC Ireland then chaired a panel discussion with stakeholders from across Amvic ICF’s supply chain. The conversation covered a range of topics related to ICF, including an increased focus on sustainability from concrete producers, the complexities of insurance environment for Modern Methods of Construction, and how to upskill in this building product.
The event was capped off with two interactive sessions: a live product demonstration of ICF block assembly led by the National Construction Training Centre, to showcase its national training in ICF installation. Simultaneously attendees were led on a tour of the production plant by Amvic ICF’s Commercial Director and Senior Production Manager, for an expert overview of the procurement, design, and manufacturing process.
